Widening a Passthrough

What started as a 3 foot opening (we call it the passthrough) was widened into a 6 foot opening.

The Process:

1. Remove moldings

2. remove drywall

3. move HVAC return and thermostat

4. remove studs and unneeded headers (make sure you are confident that it’s not a lead-bearing wall)

5. patch subfloor

6. patch / repair flooring

7. create transitions while cutting your circle saw cord

8. new drywall

9. mud, sand, mud, sand, mud sand

10. paint

11. do molding

12. more paint

Lessons Learnt:

1. Check twice to make sure you are not going to cut through your circle saw cord

2. Don’t do major projects over Christmas
